What is a California CalFresh SNAP Calculator?
A California CalFresh SNAP Calculator estimates a regular full-month food benefit for an already-eligible household. It uses the benefit month, number of CalFresh household members, and county-calculated monthly CalFresh net income.
The main result is the estimated full-month CalFresh benefit. The calculator also displays the applicable household maximum allotment, 30% net-income contribution rounded up, the eligible one- or two-person minimum when applicable, and a reminder that eligibility is assumed rather than assessed.
This version covers benefit months from October 2025 through September 2026 using federal fiscal year 2026 amounts. It does not determine whether a household qualifies or calculate CalFresh net income from wages and expenses.
How to Use the California CalFresh SNAP Calculator
Use the county-calculated CalFresh net-income amount. This is not gross income, paycheck take-home pay, or an amount produced by subtracting personal bills yourself.
Step 1: Confirm the Calculation Scope
Select Already eligible — regular full-month benefit.
The calculator does not produce a result when eligibility or CalFresh net income is unknown. It also rejects an initial partial month or special benefit calculation because those situations require rules that are outside this estimator.
Step 2: Select the Benefit Month
Choose a month from October 2025 through September 2026. These months use the same FY 2026 maximum allotments included in the calculator.
Do not select a later month using the browser or another date entry method. Rates beginning in October 2026 are not included.
Step 3: Enter CalFresh Household Members
Enter a whole number from 1 to 8. Use the number of people included in the CalFresh household determination, which may not automatically equal everyone living at the address.
The calculator does not decide who must be included in the household. Use the membership count already established for the case.
Step 4: Enter County-Calculated Monthly Net Income
Enter the CalFresh net income calculated after applicable program deductions. The field accepts an amount from $0 to $1,000,000, including cents.
Do not enter gross wages or ordinary take-home pay. If the county-calculated net amount is unknown, this calculator cannot produce a supported estimate.
Select Calculate to display the benefit breakdown. Select Reset to clear all fields and hide the previous result.
How the CalFresh Benefit Is Calculated
The calculator first selects the maximum allotment for the entered household size:
- 1 person: $298
- 2 people: $546
- 3 people: $785
- 4 people: $994
- 5 people: $1,183
- 6 people: $1,421
- 7 people: $1,571
- 8 people: $1,789
These amounts apply to the supported October 2025–September 2026 period and follow the official USDA SNAP cost-of-living adjustment tables.
The calculator then determines the household contribution:
Household contribution = 30% of county-calculated monthly CalFresh net income, rounded up to the next whole dollar
That contribution is subtracted from the maximum allotment:
Estimated benefit = Maximum allotment − Rounded-up household contribution
For an already-eligible one- or two-person household, the calculator applies a $24 full-month minimum. For households of three through eight people, no minimum is applied by this estimator. The final result cannot be below zero.
California CalFresh SNAP Calculation Example
Suppose the following information is entered:
- Calculation scope: Already eligible — regular full-month benefit
- Benefit month: August 2026
- CalFresh household members: 3
- County-calculated monthly CalFresh net income: $900
The maximum allotment for a three-person household is $785.
Calculate 30% of the entered net income:
$900 × 30% = $270
The amount is already a whole dollar, so rounding up does not change it. Subtract the contribution from the maximum allotment:
$785 − $270 = $515
The displayed results are:
- Estimated full-month CalFresh benefit: $515.00
- Benefit month: August 2026
- Household maximum allotment: $785.00
- 30% of net income — rounded up: $270.00
- Eligible 1–2 person minimum: Not applicable
- Eligibility: Assumed, not assessed
These figures exactly match the calculator for the example entries.
What the Result Does Not Include
The calculator does not perform gross-income or net-income eligibility tests. It does not calculate earned-income, standard, dependent-care, medical, shelter, or utility deductions. Household membership, resources, work rules, immigration rules, student rules, and county verification are also excluded.
Initial-month proration, recoupments, overpayments, sanctions, replacements, disaster benefits, special programs, and manual county adjustments are not included. The result is not an approval notice or a guaranteed EBT deposit.
Other financial tools do not generate the required CalFresh net-income input. Health Insurance Cost in California and the Covered California Health Insurance Calculator address health-coverage costs, while the California Living Wage Calculator provides a separate wage reference.
Child-support treatment must come from the applicable CalFresh determination. How Child Support Works in California and the California Child Support Calculator do not replace the county-calculated net-income figure. Likewise, an estimate from the California Unemployment Benefits Calculator should not be manually inserted as CalFresh net income.

Do not use the result for an initial partial month.
Do not treat the estimate as a county approval or guaranteed payment.
